The Real Dream,,,

Tuesday, December 21 2010 I went to my SMA to give presentation about my college. From my presentation, I hope many students interested in SSE. Even though they do not want to be a teacher, at least they have reference or plan B, if their purpose do not achieved. I want they school after graduate from SMA. I do not want they become unemployment or hopeless to get education.
When I prepared for my presentation, I saw not many students came, only few students who have big spirit to get education. In my college, there is a program called students financing which is school with free payment but pay after they graduate and get a job. That’s what students looking for. They want to school, no matter what, they really want to get to school freely. Because they do not have enough money to continue their study even in the cheap school. They do not hesitate that they have to pay after they graduate, because the important thing is they still can get to school.
Looking at their spirit to get good education, I was motivated to be excited too to give presentation. I gave them all information that I have. I also gave them all advices that I thought they need it. Wow, wow, wow, if all teenager of Indonesia have a big spirit to get good education is the same like that, Indonesia will never cry again. Indonesia will be able to take care of himself. Now it’s time for Indonesia to get up. Go students of Indonesia. Be a big boss in your country. That is the real dream…

Sharing moment- Teenager Anti-Plastics

Huh, this is it!! this is the day hat I’ve to present my green teacher project. I already prepared days before. Even I have to drive my motorcycle from Surabaya to Pandaan just for prepare all the materials. I even forget to eat because I was so excited. I did not care I was tired, because the important thing is my presentation has to be great and persuasive for my audience to be more care and sensitive about environmental issues. At first, I was afraid that my sharing moment was only one-way communication. I guessed that I would be more active than they did. We watched the movie together and did some discussion about the things that the world deal nowadays with rubbish. I was amazed because they had big concern to this environment. From their opinion, I can say WOW, I was wrong that I think they did not have any concern to the place where they living now, but amazing answer. They even confident and brave enough to chew out their friends who put the rubbish to space underneath table. And they have plan to face that problem. They told me that actually they already known about saving earth but they feel like only them who realize it. so they decided to just be silent that doing something to face it. Because the amount of people who realize and want to do saving this earth are very smaller than the people who do not want to. So what we can do? That was only sharing moment. We shared our opinion and got suggestion from others. Then, we decided to take persuasive action start from ourselves. Who knows that there are people who looking at our action then they become touched and then follow our action. Aminn,,,that is a big hope that all people in this universe realize about problem that out earth face nowadays. So, from that sharing moment we gave each other information. They get some information from me and I got lot knowledge from them too. And we work together to keep this earth. Go green,,,





The things that remind me again,,,

Monday, December 20 2010, is the day that I promised to my teacher to ask permission for my university socialization and for my green teacher project. I will do like presentation to persuade students in my ex-SMA to continue their study on my university. Actually, I came to fulfill my junior request too. He has been keeping in touch with me for long. So, I thought that we meet, it will make easier to him and for me to explain everything that he ask. After I asked for permission to principle, my junior accompanied me to prepare for my green teacher presentation, because for school presentation I already made it. The agenda for tomorrow was presentation for my university and then continue with my green teacher presentation. I went to look for plastic rubbish because my theme was “Generasi muda anti tas plastik”. I directly went to garbage dump by myself. Looking at to the person who seeks for rubbish, I felt sad and disappointed of myself. He is still young. I felt that I already wasted my time just for something unimportant. I imagined how if I were him who did not have any chance to get education. No never. I will never. I really grateful I still have chance to shape my creativity, to prove my skill, and to make my dreams come true. This was really big storm for me to remind again what my motivation before I become like this. Then we went home. I dropped my junior in his house. I saw his house condition. I met his mom. He is from ordinary family but he has big willing to get good education. Even though his mom only a baby sitter if there are neighbors who entrust their baby to her, but he has big spirit to get education. He did everything. He searched for information, prepared the application form and another letters, and so on. He reminds me to what I was in his position who was really busy to prepare many letters to continue my study. How was I crying because I was tired driving my motorcycle from morning until night from one place to another places to take care of my identity card, to get legalizations from RT to Kecamatan office. It was really hard. I do not know how to show it. But one thing that I have to always remember for my motivation is my decision to continue my study. I have to catch my dream. And I have to keep my spirit on,,,

Dictionary Time! - Semantic class

Where do we go if we cannot find the meaning of word?
What do we look for to ask about the explanation of phrase?
Whom we ask to, to get new word?
Where we can found the word or thing after morning before night?
Get the idea? Know the answer?
Yes you are right!!
DICTIONARY!
How important dictionary is for people who blind with new word. How important dictionary is for elementary students to know the other language of their part of body, how important dictionary is for language teacher for teaching, how important dictionary is for me or for us to help us to write our paper. Very important. And the people who make and arrange dictionary really have big role in our lives. We owe them the moral duty. We can found any word that we looking for because of their help. The answers are always right and make sense, because the maker is also not particular person. It must need expertise, expert person. We call it lexicographer- the person who make dictionary. This is what I felt in the semantic class. My beloved lecturer, Pak Oki asked us to arrange dictionary. From this, I learned about how we have to be very very really careful in choosing word and meaning of it, because it will be read by people and the explanation of it will stay in the reader’s mind forever and apply it in their daily action. WOW! I have to really careful. In making dictionary, we acted as if we are a lexicographer. I put all my effort on that. Huh! This is not just merely assignment. But I am so happy because Pak Oki said that our dictionary will be published and put it in the library. Heard that, as if all my effort are paid. Thank you Pak Oki. Thank you verrrryyyyyy,,,,,,, much for all lexicographers in around the world. ^_^

Dia kok beda, aku malu ah,,,

Memang terkadang menyakitkan bagi seseorang yang berbeda dari yang lain. Apa lagi yang lain itu terlihat jauh lebih baik dari apa yang kita miliki. Seseorang selalu merasa dirinya lemah, kurang baik, merasa tidak percaya diri, pesimis dan sebagainya bila melihat yang lain itu terasa lebih diterima dari milik kita. Sehingga jalan satunya-satunya agar tidak tertindas atau merasa malu karena lain dari yang lain itu, seseorang lebih cenderung menyulap dirinya menjadi seperti apa yang banyak diakui oleh umum. Menilik pada contoh novel salah asuhan dimana Hanafi, malu akan jati dirinya sebagai seorang pribumi, sehingga dia membenci dan bahkan ingin membuang budaya yang menjadi identitasnya tersebut.
Indonesia memiliki berbagai macam ragam kebudayaan. Mulai dari yang nampak sampai yang abstrak. Kebudayaan berasal dari bahasa sansekerta, yaitu buddhayah yang merupakan bentuk jamak dari buddhi (budi atau akal) diartikan sebagai hal-hal yang berkaitan dengan budi dan akal. Salah satunya adalah budaya unggah ungguh yang notabene menjadi karakter umum orang Indonesia. Salah satu masalah yang ada pada novel salah asuhan, Hanafi memperdebatkan masalah kesopanan yang dimiliki orang Indonesia. Mengutip dialog Hanafi dalam novel tersebut “Kesopanan ? Apakah perbuatan kita, duduk berhadapan antara satu meter jaraknya, dibatasi oleh meja teh, di tempat terang dan pada waktu yang lazim dipergunakan orang buat berkunjung-kunjungan, boleh dikatakan melanggar peri kesopanan ?"Jadi bagiku, sungguhlah gelap batas undang-undang kesopanan itu—sebab ia tidak tersurat." Dalam uraian tersebut Hanafi merasa terikat oleh budaya yang dimilikinya, padahal orang yang diajaknya berdebat, Corrie, dia sangat dapat mengerti dan menghormati budaya Hanafi. Tapi mengapa Hanafi sangat membenci yang menjadi budayanya tersebut. Dari novel tersebut diungkapkan bahwa Hanafi merasa tidak nyaman dengan berbagai peraturan yang ada pada budayanya. Dia merasa ingin bebas seperti budaya barat pada umumnya. Dia ingin dapat menyalurkan cintanya kepada Corrie tapi tidak tersampaikan karena adat yang mengikatnya.
Hermianto dan Winarno (2009) dalam buku ilmu sosial dan budayanya menyatakan bahwa kepentingan hidup manusia adalah dalam rangka untuk memenuhi kebutuhan hidup. Mungkin bagi Hanafi kepentingan hidupnya hanyalah Corrie. Sehingga dia mengabaikan semua aturan budaya. Hermianto & winarno juga menyebutkan bahwa daerah berlakunya norma etik relative universal, meskipun tetap dipengaruhi oleh ideologi masyarakat pendukungnya. Itu mengapa Hanafi selalu membandingkan dengan budaya yang dilihatnya pada umumnya walaupun dia hidup dilingkungan yang dominan dengan adat minang di sekitarnya.
Dari cerita Hanafi, sebenarnya bagaimana latar belakang Hanafi itu sendiri. Bagaimana dia dibesarkan. Apakah dia dibesarkan berdasarkan budaya minang atau yang lainnya. Menurut Hermianto dan Winarno (2009) budaya itu diturunkan secara vertikal dari generasi sebelum ke generasi berikutnya untuk digunakan dan diterapkan dalam kehidupan sehari hari. Tetapi budaya itu bisa juga ditolak oleh generasi penerima bila budaya tersebut dirasa tidak sesuai dengan kepribadian si penerima dan juga tidak sesuai dengan pekembangan jaman pada saat itu. Bila dilihat dari sudut budaya minang, Masyarakat Minangkabau adalah suatu masyarakat yang menganut sistem Matriarileneal dimana garis Ibu lebih dominan dan hukum kewarisan mengikuti garis Ibu, yang mungkin satu-satunya di-Indonesia. Dengan sistem ini, penguasaan harta pusaka dipegang oleh kaum perempuan sedangkan hak kaum pria dalam hal ini cukup kecil. Sebenarnya penulis belum mengerti benar bagaimana pengaruh budaya tersebut dengan kedudukan Hanafi sebagai anak tunggal laki-laki dalam keluarganya. Apakah karena dia merasa seorang laki-laki, sehingga dia merasa berhak memutuskan apa yang menjadi kehendaknya.
Melihat cerita dari seorang Hanafi, sepertinya hal tersebut tidak lepas dari pengaruh globalisasi. Dimana globalisasi mengubah cara berpikir Hanafi terhadap budayanya. Hermianto & Winarno (2009) mengatakan bahwa pengaruh globalisasi tehadap sosial budaya adalah masuknya nilai-nilai dari peradaban lain. Mereka mengatakan bahwa globalisasi mengakibatkan timbulnya erosi nilai-nilai sosial budaya suatu bangsa yang menjadi jati dirinya. Tetapi alangkah baiknya apabila budaya itu dijaga dan dilestarikan karena budaya tersebut adalah sebuah amanah yang berupa hadiah dari leluhur kita. Memang kita harus menyesuaikan dengan perkembangan jaman sekarang, kita boleh menerima masuknya globalisasi tapi tetap menjaga nilai budaya kita sebagai pedoman identitas kita. Sebaiknya kita menyikapi adanya globalisasi dengan memanfaatkan peluang yang ada tanpa mengabaikan nilai-nilai dan norma-norma yang ada dalam budaya kita. Karena budaya tersebut adalah identitas yang menunjukkan siapa kita dan yang membedakan kita dari orang lain. Apabila kita yang memilikinya tapi tidak mau menjaganya, apabila suatu saat seseorang mengambilnya dari kita. Lalu siapa yang harus dipersalahkan???

Technology Language Learning

It is so bad be someone who left behind, especially about technology. Therefore, not only me, but also many people want to learn more about technology. World nowadays is different from long time ago even a second ago. Because every second there will be new gadget things are created. I went to SMAN 12 Jakarta for school visit this semester. In the first time I came and entered to the class, first time that I did there was class observation. First time that I observed, was class condition. How the teacher teach the students with everything in the class, what tools that the teacher uses for his or her teaching, and so on. I was shocked. There were not projector only OHP. I even did not know how to use it. There were no LCD and projector in every class. Whereas I already planned, I would teach using that kind of thing. I planned teach using power point like what I like to do. Nevertheless, I relieved there was a projector portable. My master teacher is a diligent teacher. I saw him prepare for his teaching. He told me that he often search from internet for his teaching. In the class, he also sometimes teaches using laptop and projector. For some explanations that need deep understanding, he uses white board and marker to explain to the students.
I had to wait for my turn to teach. I could teach in next week. In the week before I just did my master teacher task such as checking paper test students and making lesson plan. While I waited my turn, I saw my friends’ turn to teach. We encouraged each other. Every group who would teach, we gave them spirit and asked how the result was after they finished. I heard from their story their teaching was not success enough. They told me that the teaching was in a mess, because the projector did not work. Whereas, they already practiced all night before. Then we discussed together, my friend had a notion that sometimes power point does not work for teaching. She told me that power point makes students only watching to the slide not doing some activity that make them more understand about the subject. Then, I thought again. I think she was true. I talked to myself that “,,,,hmm…yeachh…if teacher explain using power point the students will only focus on the slide which is colorful and full of decoration not to the subject. But if students practice it by themselves in paper or in whiteboard they will get their own experience and deeper understand that will keep it in their mind for long” Then, what should I do?. Luckily, my group and I prepared the lesson without using anything of slide. I only use a whiteboard and marker to explain to the students about certain subject.
From the way of teaching, teacher does not include technology to help students acquire new language in class. There are so many students’ activites, which deal with computer that can be adapted for learning English. Williams (2005) stated that from games could help students to explore their communication skill as games’ player. Barton (2005) said that students could increase their vocabulary and improve their writing skill from writing in the computer, because in computer there is a checker that will correct the wrong grammar and misspelling.
I confess that technology is also important and have a big role in language teaching, but it does not mean that we only depend on the technology. We have to have a plan B. We have to know when we need to use that tool or not. If I were the teacher there, I will teach the students using both of those tools. Nevertheless, I have my own trick to manage it. Usually every school has two meeting for English study a week. Therefore, I will use one meeting in the class and another in the language laboratory. In language laboratory I will not only use for listening but also for explaining with power point in order to make students fun but still get the lesson. I will also not forget study in the class; I will make my students feel comfortable and fun to get the lesson. I will make my class be interactive by giving some games or other activities that make them move from their sit.

Bad or Good???

Good or bad???
From the lesson plan of the teacher, all the criteria accomplish the students’ aspects. In my opinion, it is a complete lesson. My master teacher is a diligent teacher. I saw him prepare for his teaching. He always prepares the material before they teach. He gets the material not only from the book but also from the internet. I really appreciate for that. I also impress when he try to discipline the students. I don’t know how he can make the students respect to him. Only with warning sentence, such as “please be quiet”. The students at that time be silent and focus on him. When I interviewed him to make sure what was happening, he answered that he not always will be a nice teacher. Sometimes he will angry to students. That’s why students feel afraid and respect to him. In the class when we decide a group, I always do counting. But one new way I learn from him. He divided group with made a circle like mosquito essence based on students’ list. This really unpredictable.
The ineffectiveness of this teaching are the teacher teaches never based on lesson plan. That’s why teacher always less or more than the time that have scheduled. He has the lesson plan, but he teaches not based on it. Teacher also never makes sure about the understanding of students. Based on Christ Kyriacou in process variables step of a basic framework for thinking about effective teaching, teacher only fulfill only some categories. Teacher doesn’t provide ‘clarity of explanations’ because teacher teaches only based on examination oriented. He teaches students with giving explanation and then give so many exercises paper. Teacher also doesn’t provide ‘use of praise and criticism’ and ‘type of feedback pupils receive’ which is very important for the students and the teacher itself. From feedback or reflection of the student teacher can know what level the understanding of students that have to increase. From that way, I think teacher won’t able to help students who don’t understand. For students who have much money they can take course outside the school. But for someone who in lower economic, that will be a problem. So what should teacher do???
After I did observation, look from students’ reflection, in my opinion, this teacher is less of passion as a teacher. He teaches conventionally that makes students feel bored and chose to take course outside the school. His students told me that they never got good mark in test whereas they always got best point in quiz that teacher gave in explaining the lesson. Then, in order to do not make unfair opinion, I asked to the teacher how he teaches his students. He answered that he makes the test is quite different from quiz because he wanted the students to learn before having test. Because sometimes students underestimate the test, and they do not study before test because they felt that they already mastered the lesson. Then after test he didn’t give rectification because he wanted the students learn by themselves to look for the correct answer. Because by the students do that they will have a deep understanding because they looking for it by themselves. Then I talk to myself, its logical? It can be applied. So, What do you think guys?
If I were a teacher in a future, sometimes I will apply what my master teacher has done. Certainly, I will do it by giving some improvisation. I will more care to my students. I will apply cooperative learning atmosphere. I have opinion that sometimes conventional-way work best in teaching. Nevertheless, the problem is how we can design it as effective as it can and make students get the understanding of the lesson. Any idea friends?

The Savior


Not every person is same. One has different learning style than other. That could be happen in way of teaching too, because the person who teaches also has different experience and learning style. This is what I met in my school experience. We met our master teacher and got so much information about his teaching methods. In the first meeting, we just do an introduction about ourselves. We did little sharing about the way of teaching. He told us that if he wants to teach listening he will give a listening section all day long and ask the students to listen and answer the paper sheet. He does not teach anything or even give a brief explanation or evaluation in that day. After giving listening intensively on one day, the next meeting will be a test for listening. We were shocked at the beginning. We said…” a…sir..(laugh) how poor the students sir….” Then he answered”just let them learn by themselves”. Okay, from this side, we have different opinion about teaching student. He likes to teach in front of the class, without any feels of care, he let his students to learn by themselves. If I were a teacher and have my own class, I will teach with so many ways to make my students enjoy the lesson and the important thing is they have deep understanding about the subject that I teach.
In another sharing, he told me about his way of assess students. He said that he really wanted to avoid a subjective assessment. Then, I told him “why don’t you use rubric sir in assessment. It could help you to avoid subjectivity”. He interested in rubric that I suggested. Then he asked me what the rubric is. I told him and I showed him what the rubric looks like. Then he said”o,,,I see…”. Actually, He is a diligent teacher. He always on time in preparing material for his teaching and also he use internet to support his teaching aid.
We made a rubric for him, he also made his own. But it’s quite different. He only classify that 5 is excellent, 4 is very good,…and so on without any explanation what criteria that belong to excellent and other.
Next day, we entered to his class. We did a little observation there. That was a drama presentation. I saw he gave students his rubric. I didn’t know why he used it although we had told him that ours was clearer than him. In the class, I saw the students were active. From their behavior, I can conclude that they are smart although not all students. Most the students have a good pronunciation, creative, speak fluently and confident. I asked to myself how can? The teacher is like that? I am sure that most the students take course outside school. I thought harder and I got the conclusion that was logic enough if we let the students learn by themselves. There is an effort from the students to learn. And the result will stay long time in their mind. It’s like give our belief to them that they can learn by themselves. Even though we have different’ opinion but sometime I like his thought as a teacher. But the problem from this way is what about the student who don’t have spirit of study and students who are from lower economic who cannot take course outside the school.
I don’t really know what’s the matter of this teacher who has little care of his students. But I am sure if I were a teacher I will try to do everything to help my students. I will think deeper and deepest about how to make them satisfy in my lesson.

First Corrector



Every student will feel happy if he or she gets good point in test, daily or semester test. When the paper test is given back to the student after correction, they will be so excited to check it with their friends. They scream, they looked really excited to see his or her result after work hard for study. BUT, it’s really hard to see their happiness broken with feeling of disappointed. When they see their answer is right but in paper there is a cross mark. And when they know that their friends’ is right whereas they have same answer. That’s why I’m so excited and also worried when I got task to check students’ paper test. I didn’t know what I had to do with the correction because maybe the master teacher had different interpretation in checking student paper test. This was my first time to check paper test and give point based on my ability and based on knowledge that I had. Even though I have ever had experience to help my teacher give some corrections but that was an exact answer. My teacher gave me the key then I just matched it with the students’ answer. This was different.
When I checked it, I saw so many answers of the students. From that I could see how deep their understanding about the subject and what I could improve from me as a teacher as a self-correction.
Among 40 papers there was one paper which was written “maaf ya pak saya bingung. saya tidak bisa”. From that statement I think It’s one of big problem teacher have to deal with. To see that I felt that if I am the teacher I will feel really fail to be a teacher. I cannot accompany my students to get knowledge. From this problem actually who have to take a responsible. The student who lazy to study or the teacher who doesn’t really understand the student or have low knowledge?

School visit - First day

First November 2010 is my first day to go to school that I visit for school experience this semester. I was so worried at first. But I still excited. Because this is different. I don’t do school observation but I am going to be a teacher assistant. Wow! I learned so many today. In the first day, I already got so many information to be a good teacher consist of the problem of student, prepare material to make student understand and etc. From that I can know what am I going to do if I were a real teacher.
In my first day in school, my master teacher told me so many things include the problem that he deals everyday as a teacher. For example, students always inclined translate in Indonesian-English concept. If the students are given games to make the students interested in learning, teacher worried that the material are not mastered by the students because of too enjoy in games. Another factor that make teaching-learning not interesting is teacher only focus on preparing national examination. So, the students only drilled by giving so many exercises. From students side, that would be so bored but the teacher is also right. So, what I have to be? What the teacher should do? That is my homework as a teacher candidate to find a way to solve that problem.
One thing that amazed me today is I offered my master teacher to use rubric in giving assessment to students. Firstly, we just talk and shared about what we are going to do as team teaching. Then we discussed our job to prepare a lesson. In the middle of conversation, he said that his way to assess student is by his own assessment and peer assessment. He said that why he did two ways assessment because he wanted to avoid a subjectivity in giving assessment. I appreciate about his opinion. Then I suggest him why do not use rubric. I think it will be helpful and avoided from subjectivity. Then he interested and curious what rubric is. Then we discussed to make rubric together. I am happy can introduce teacher something new for him or her. It means that I can help. I also like to have sharing with them because from that what problem that I will find as a teacher. That’s why I can prepare the way to face it. Good luck for me and another teacher candidate. We can be an awesome teacher in the future.

Blog, Wiki, Youtube, Teachertube, Podcast, Google, Facebook, Twitter, Skype and Second Life are sophisticated web page 2.0. I really disappointed of myself if I cannot use it. After all presentation of my friends about those things, I found myself WOW, why I did not learn about those things for long time ago. But if I look back to my past, I cannot blame anyone or anything. That because of myself who really blind about technology and convention thinking.
One day when I discussed about technology, my friend told me that those things are really useful for us as a teacher and we cannot blame someone who cannot master about technology because they also do not have knowledge to use it and do not have the tools to operate it. So the tools is also be a problem. So what about someone who has the tools but cannot use it? Everything is back to the individual. For me I want and I will learn. I don’t want to be someone who left behind. I want to master all technologies but I still defense myself to do not depend on only to technology. I will never find way to master it only from my friends’ presentation before I try and explore it by myself. So, good luck for me and good luck also for someone who want to learn.

New Innovation to Save Our Planet

In my Environmental Education class this week, my group and I made a poster. My group got topic about transportation and communication. We had read so many articles that given by our lecturer. After reading those articles, we found that so many ways to save our earth. In Stockholm, to reduce sound pollution they use electric car, in Egypt, there is a community who deal with rubbish called "Zabbaleen", people in Amsterdam use bicycle as their transportation. The government of Amsterdam supports that program with build road special just for bicycle and so on. After reading it, I found myself WOW! So many countries try to safe our planet by saving energy with so many ways too. The important thing is they do it with fun without any pressure because this is a program from the government.
After deal with my own poster, our lecturer, Bu Stin asked us to move around to other group posters. Their posters are different topic. There is a topic about food and agriculture, waste management, renewable resources, water and so on. WOW! Only that word that I can say. So many ways to reduce emission in this planet but only few people who do it. Only few people who realize that we depend on nature. Many people feel like if they have much money they can buy anything even this nature. That’s big wrong. When this nature show their angriness, many people who said like that will confuse to find way to say “sorry I will never do it again,,,”

I hope all people in this universe realize about that problem. If we take a benefit from nature we have to pay it back with doing reforestation and also keep this nature and people in balance. Because there will be a time that money will useless. I hope for everyone who read my blog, they have to promise to themselves to contribute in saving earth planet. You can try from small thing. For example, you can reduce using of plastic. You can replace it with something that more long-lasting. For example when you buy something, you bring your own bag, clothes bag that can be washed.

Short story - My New Doll

My new doll
Hi, my name is Pipit. All my friends and teachers said that I am a diligent, friendly, and smart girl. I am the eldest of my family. I am second grade of senior high school thirteen Surabaya.
In school, I get many good friends. Today’s lesson is English. I enjoy the lesson. The lesson is very interesting because I learn about vocabulary today. My teacher asks the students to read a story, the title is “ The hole in your stocking”. The story is very good. Then, my teacher asks us to find word that we don’t understand and check it in dictionary. Wow! I get new words in my mind. I like it. I like challenge. What’s more that I can get from school. Let’s see tomorrow.

Hmm,,, humming bird is heard. It means time to take a bath and go to school. I go to school by motor cycle with my daddy. My daddy is the best father for me. He always accompanies me to school before he goes to his office. For first lesson today, I meet ICT lesson. WoW! It will be nice to learn about computer. The teacher comes and smiles to every student. He is very friendly. We learn about make an e-mail account. He explains it step by step, one by one and so clearly. I just follow what he said. While the teacher explains, I see my friend in front of me is so clever playing his fingers. His name is Jemmy. His fingers are very lively to click this and that and very fast too. He does the task as if he doesn’t pay attention to the teacher. The result is very well. My school life always going like that.

This week is an examination week. Last night I studied for the lesson that is examined today. Every night before the examination, I always study for the lesson tomorrow morning. Mathematic, check! English, check! ICT, check! And so on. I have worked hard for this examination. I hope I will get good mark for it.

Huh! Announcement day is come. I am a bit nervous. But I am so curious too about my point. Finally, I get it. All lessons I get average. I think not perfect point but also not really bad mark. Jemmy get 100 for ICT. I know Jemmy really master about computer. Sometimes I ask him if I found something difficult about computer. And he is so welcome and excited to help me. He can operate computer from Ms.Word to programming. He always explores that stuffs. He also often helps his friends. For me I don’t really interesting in computer. In my opinion, perhaps every person has his or her preferences. Someone likes red other likes yellow, athletic like running swimmer like swimming, I like reading and doing my homework Jemmy like playing with his computer in his room. That’s life.

I have chosen to represent my school to Traditional culture competition. In this competition, the participants have to follow the TPA test, interview and perform a traditional performance. It could be traditional dance, sing, theater or so on that related to culture. The participants have to in quarantine. I learn, I read so many books for this competition in my dormitory. I just do it like what I usually I do at home. I often read, study and do my homework because I want to get best mark. I do it for preparing final exam. Even though still 1 year again but I prepare it from now. I find new friends here. We change our phone numbers, facebook account and e-mail. We take photo together from our camera cell phone. We really happy as if we forget that we are in competition. In break time, one of the committee makes a game. The game called “blind walk”. The rule is there are two sides. First, all stay one side. All of us have to close our eyes, only listen, as if we are blind person. When the committee say something and for you is true, you walk to another side across to you with close your eyes. If not, you stay. The committee said “ are you a digital teenager?”. Then, when we all open our eyes, only me in different place. I am seen as someone who really silly. Why I did not walk because I was not sure that I really master about all technologies, gadget and so on. Because in my opinion someone who can be called a digital teenager is not only someone who can operate yahoo or facebook. If I look back to myself, I can say I can operate computer even though not as master as programmer. I can design or just mix and match and organize picture or color but not as advance as graphic designer and so on. I just can operate what I need. Ms Office, Ms Excel, Ms Power Point and so on. I have Yahoo and I often use it. I have Facebook account, Blog, and some other social networking. When I need something, I just click and search by Google. That’s all. That is me. Even though I can do those things, I still cannot call myself a digital teenager.
In my opinion, in my mind, someone who called digital teenager is someone who can operate the computer until to the processor, can delete viruses (not only from scanner) and anything deeper about program and computer. In my mind someone who can be called a digital teenager is like Jemmy. Maybe I am wrong to describe what digital teenager is :-(. But that what came up in my mind automatically when that question came.
I know I am full of limitation in technology. I am not as master as my friends, although I know I have the same level of understanding of that. But I want to be honest to myself about my weaknesses and try to fix and improve it. I am willing to learn anything. I am not a stupid girl. I can learn. I was so shy and loose all my spirit of competition. Even though the committee helps me in order I was not look like shy, I still can't forget this.

I go home as fast as I can. I really don’t want to remember that competition anymore. I just keep silent. My daddy asks about my condition, I don’t hear it. Because I am look sad, my little sister asks me to accompany her to bookstore. With feeling of sad I accept it. In the bookstore I just walk behind my sister and look down to the floor. I don’t see the people. Because I still remember that event. Suddenly my neck feel tired and then I move my neck to up and down, right and left. When I see to up side, I see rack with written “technology”. At that time, I read for a moment and choose book that I like. I buy many books and all about technology. My sister shocked look at me suddenly change to be weird person who buy many books. I owe my sister’s money because I don’t bring much money.

At home, I read that book seriously. May daddy and my sister worried about my condition. But I just read. I am not killing myself. They just let me stay in my room and read all day long. My daddy asks me “ don’t you want to do your homework or read your lesson book?”. “Not now my beloved daddy, I am still busy” my aswer and smile to him. In the evening after Maghrib I go to internet place and apply what I’ve learned from the book. After that I go home and open my lesson book and do my homework. Now, in my note, I do not only read my lesson book and do homework but I also give time for reading my new preference. If I don’t know, I call Jemmy or ask to my other friend that I think they can help me. Now, I have new friend that I can play with.

Technology and Language Learning

My reflection...





In sketch, draw, visualize! Session of TLL lesson, my lecturer Pak Iwan asked me what meaning of my picture. I told him that it was my willing to learn. I draw 2 pictures in one paper. Both of them were interrelationship. Honestly I really blind about technology. I just have my confidence to learn about technology in the end of my senior high school and until now. When I remember how afraid I am to touch the pc, I felt ashamed to myself and to my friends. I just got my desire to literate this in my journey of university. I don’t know. I just laugh when remember how simple I am and how long I am to learn. But it’s ok. The important thing is I still want to learn without give up. I always said that I am stupid but my friends always tell me that I can do it. I really grateful have so many friends who like to help me.

Humanistic




 Humanisme, apa sebenarnya humanisme? Berdasarkan kamus Oxford Humanisme adalah sebuah sistem pemikiran yang memecahkan masalah manusia dengan alasan pertolongan atau bantuan lebih penting daripada keyakinan keagamaan. Ini menekankan fakta bahwa sifat dasar manusia adalah baik. Dari itu, kita bisa menyimpulkan bahwa humanisme adalah tentang hubungan kita dengan alam semesta ini. Apakah terhadap orang lain, hewan, alam dan sebagainya. Jika kita bertanya kepada beberapa orang yang berjalan di jalan dengan pertanyaan "Apakah Anda tahu apa humanisme?". Tentunya mereka tiba-tiba akan bingung untuk menjawabnya. Tidak banyak orang tahu apa humanisme karena humanisme kurang perhatian di era canggih yang mengurangi interaksi antar manusia yang menurunkan rasa kemanusiaan seseorang.
Ketika pertama kali saya mempelajari humanistik, hal pertama yang muncul dalam benak saya adalah "saya akan belajar tentang pendidikan kewarganegaraan, tetapi dengan nama yang lebih keren". Saya membayangkan bahwa saya akan belajar tentang politik dan segalanya tentang bangsa. Tapi ketika saya masuk dan mendapatkan pelajaran di kelas, apa yang sebenarnya saya pikirkan adalah jauh berbeda dengan kenyataan yang saya dapat. Dari pelajaran ini saya belajar lebih banyak tentang hubungan manusia dengan lingkungannya. Saya belajar tentang identitas saya sendiri, budaya saya, alam dan sebagainya.
Saya pikir dari pelajaran ini orang akan menjadi sadar tentang apa itu kemanusiaan. Orang-orang akan menyadari bahwa kita tidak bisa hidup tanpa orang lain. Tidak ada kejahatan, tidak ada lagi kehancuran, penghinaan tidak lebih. Semua hidup dalam damai dan harmonis.


Humanism, what exactly humanism is? Based on Oxford dictionary Humanism is a system of thought that solving human problem with the help of reason is more important than religious beliefs. It emphasizes the fact that the basic nature of human beings is good. From that, we can conclude that humanism is all about our relations to this universe. Whether to other people, animals, nature and so on. If we asked some people who walk on the street with question “ Do you know what humanism is?”. Surely they will suddenly stunned to answer it. Not many people know what humanism is because humanism less of attention in the era that all the sophisticated product reduces the human inter-action and nature that lowers one's sense of humanity.
When in the first time I got study about humanistic, the first thing that came up to my mind is ”I will learn about citizenship education but with cooler name”. I imagined that I will learn about politic and anything about nation. BUT when I enter and get the lesson in the class, in fact what I was thinking about is far different with the reality. From this lesson I learn much more about human relation with the environment. I learn about my own identity, my culture, nature and so on.
I think from this lesson people become aware about humanitarian. People will realize that we cannot live without other. No more crime, no more destruction, no more humiliation.
